LA songwriter Cillie Barnes has been uncharacteristically quiet since initially courting blog attention over a year ago with quirk-pop earworm ‘Indian Hill’. Thankfully, the silence is very much over with Barnes – real name Vanessa Long – revealing her first single ‘Brainwash’, a remarkably focused, slightly trippy slice of Edward Sharpe-indebted fun.
Set for release via Universal imprint Loma Vista, the track layers glittering cymbal splashes and spritely guitar strumming atop a graceful piano motif to create the feel-good debut of an otherwise miserable spring thus far.
