Following news that gospel legend Bobby Womack is suffering from colon cancer, the lyrics to ‘The Bravest Man In The Universe’ take on new poignance. Womack’s forthcoming new album, due out on XL in June, was co-produced by Damon Albarn and Richard Russell – and Russell’s fingerprints are all over this, with a behind-sheet-glass aesthetic that borrows heavily from Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here.
