Listen: Bat and Ball – 'We Prefer It In the Dark' EP [Premiere]
It took a while for the Sinclair siblings to connect musically. Despite writing and performing in bands throughout their teens, from their childhood home in the West Country, it took a shared stint together in Goldsmith’s to discover the nuanced connection inherent in their shared songwriting abilities – a partnership that finally matured as Bat and Ball.
Their mysterious, crystalline blend of upfront, soulful melody and eerie electronics is best showcased on lead track, ‘We Prefer It In the Dark’. Over the subtleties of the drum’s synthetic shuffle, the pulsing bassline drives the prominent dual vocal through its tense paces. If Abi’s smooth vocal is the more rounded, Chris’s counterpart is the sharper, contributing to the terse chime of the song’s suspensed conclusion. It’s a promising recipe that runs through the backbone of this EP, that’s available to stream exclusively below.
We Prefer It In the Dark is out on 14 October, through Hospital Samples.
