Sydney-based duo Au.Ra are set to release ‘Pyramid’ as part of Leeds blog/imprint The Schoole of Abuse’s new compilation No Music = No Life. Clock chime guitars toll in synch with rasping snare thwacks in the palpably tense intro before the oil-slick bass rumbles in, sweeping away the tautness with its treacly oscillations.
Tinny beats flutter like confetti as the melody begins to blossom courtesy of Tom Crandles’ disconsolate drawl. Burnished with vocal effects and spurring memories of Casablancas in his Phrazes phase, each tremulous syllable washes into the next; Au.Ra summon a tidal wave of reverb which we’re powerless to resist. And why would you want to?
No Music = No Life comprises a host of Schoole of Abuse founder, Sean Stanley’s favourite emerging acts and is scheduled for release in June with a limited run of 100 coloured cassettes.
