Listen: ANR – DFCCC (Suicide cover)
In the mixtape released in the build-up to their new album due next year, ANR (Awesome New Republic) lend source material from their pool of inspiration and turn the originals into meandering offshoot creations. They’ve taken the likes of Kanye West, Radiohead, John Carpenter and, on this very track, proto-goth-punks Suicide and transform the samples, beats or grooves into delicious chunks of synthpop bliss.
This rendition (are “cover” or “remix” the correct terms for this kinda thing?) of ‘Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne’ sees the Miami threepiece recast the track into a R&B-tinged gem like a musical version of those little penny-crushing machines you get in fairgrounds.
