Lisa Bregneager (fka Lisa Alma) announces Slowdancer album; listen to lead track "In the Blue"
Once known as Lisa Alma, Danish artist Lisa Bregneager is back with her "debut" album Slowdancing next month. Today she unveils the first taster in the form of the elegant "In the Blue".
Bregneager's last album as Lisa Alma, Sweater, was a gorgeous piano-based and '80s-tinged pop album. While the name and decade of influence have changed, the piano remains intact but in perhaps in a more '90s singer-songwriter framework. I'd hesitate to use the word "mature" but there is sheer class on display all across "In the Blue".
Of her name change, Bregneager explains that sh feels "a new era is coming up. Turning 30, moving to Berlin after 10 years in Copenhagen, feeling a bit more focused and confident as a music producer. I might still be releasing music as Lisa Alma but for now, and for this album Slowdancing, I need a fresh start and a new frame to work in. I’m still creating indie pop music with retro vibes.". Of the song, she says "the image of standing on the edge of a cliff, and your intuition tells you something good is ahead, forgetting yourself for a moment while falling fearlessly into something unknown and beautiful. I believe in intuition and the energy you get from another being. “In the Blue” is about two people carrying each others’ weight, and getting stronger together."
"In the Blue" is icy cool. There's skeletal, shivering guitar, echoing percussion, just the slightest hints of electronic ambience, and bright droplets of keys. Bregneager's distinctive croon is as attractive and beguiling as ever.
