
Pop cellist Linnea Olsson shares lyric video for “Weekend”
The notches in Linnea Olsson’s belt of musical collaborations are undeniably impressive - from Peter Gabriel to Sting - but rest assured, she’s much, much cooler than that.
The lyric video for most recent single “Weekend” is a homemade stop-motion by the singer herself. Olsson pairs her delicate cello-picking with her own painting and collage in jerky animation. The naïete of the video compliments Olsson’s dulcet tones - reminiscent of both Kate Bush and Regina Spektor in parts.
"I always loved drawing,” Olsson explains of the video’s inception. “It’s been a hobby of mine since I was little. I always kept it as an interest and I’ve never stopped doodling about in my spare time. I don’t really know why I suddenly decided to make a stop motion video for “Weekend’,” she admits. “I guess I just felt like doing it, as a fun thing. I’ve always liked the concept of lyric videos so that’s kind of what this is: made up, drawn, painted, photographed and assembled in iMovie by myself. The video is very connected to the song - it’s basically what I see before my eyes when I play it. It's pretty much like a 3 min long self portrait.”
