Liima reveal the electronic groove of "513" ahead of the release of debut album ii
Liima have unveiled another taster for their debut album ii today, ahead of its release on 18 March.
The Danish/Finnish band made up of Tatu Rönkkö, plus Efterklang's Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg recorded their album in three days following week-long residencies in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Maderia where they would compose during the day and play a live concert at night made up of the newly-written songs.
Following on from "Amerika", the jittery electro introduction to "513" - whose cyclical flickers apparently contain a Fibonacci sequence in their programming - eventually breaks down into a heavy bass groove manned by Stolberg, the intensity not leavened at all by Clausen's trademark smooth croon or the choir of voices which join him for an uttterly captivating outtro. Underpinning everything is the percussion of Rönkkö, full of energy and and precision, reflecting perhaps the influence of the Berlin recording sessions. It's the sound of improvisation and a collective élan vital pushing at the walls of the city.
The title of the track refers to May 13th, the date Liima member Stolberg got married. The song is inspired by an ancient Hawaiian wedding ceremony and befriending George Clooney’s personal assistant on a golf course. Only some of these "facts" are true. You decide.
ii wil be released on 18 March via 4AD and the band will tour throughout the coming months. Tour dates are below, after the audio of "513".
