Krista Papista unveils her visuals for "I Wish I Had Blue Eyes"
"Sordid Pop" artist Krista Papista has shared her visuals for latest offering "I Wish I Had Blue Eyes".
The clip is directed by blør and Papista, with Korsshan Schlauer as Director Of Photography.
Cyprus-born Papista explains the video/track in a statement:
The portrayals of masculinity in Cyprus and Greece are still ridiculously conservative. Boys and men have to theatrically embody the most obvious, traditional, conventional, cliché, orthodox traits of masculinity’s aesthetics and behaviours.
I’m not going to lie - some of these aesthetics are super hot; I love masculine clothes, I went through a drag phase when I was a kid - I used to have about an hour and a half after school before my parents came home and I’d wear my dad’s clothes, knew how to bow my tie perfectly..I still do…I used to put yogurt all over my face and stare in the mirror, pretended to shave as I ate the yogurt with each spoon-fool slowly revealing my silly round face…just like that hot American actor on TV… lol…
I think I felt kind of high from these rituals, it was pure entertainment, pure innocent theatrical fun… So to be honest I still don’t understand why people take these things so seriously. I have male friends of mine who change the tone of their voice as soon as they set foot back in Cyprus; they want to sound more masculine. Weird right? There’s something about the loss of power once viewed as feminine… obviously that’s pure bullshit.
The track is a Gordian knot of taut rhythms, buzzing synths, tender keys, and abrasive electro - Papista's politically and socially conscious concepts have been impeccable rendered in sonic form, with huge contrasts and disjointed energy.
