Hozier-endorsed organ scholar Kitt Philippa finally returns with earthy new single "Human"
If Hozier thinks "impressive is too weak a word" to describe your music, you must be getting something right.
Hailing from Ireland's County Armargh, Kitt Philippa's new single "Human" finds itself in a similarly earthy yet uplifting landscape to those of their biggest celebrity fan.
Harnessing their talents as an accomplished classical musician – KP is an organ scholar and has played with The Ulster Orchestra in the past – "Human" is a sweeping, enchanting cut that draws from a rich range of influences and genres. Simple but never simplistic, the track features layers of vocals building a one-person choir over meticulously minimal synths and percussion.
With "Human" their first release since 2013's Broken To Be Rebuilt EP, the new single sees Kitt Philippa striking out with renewed resolve, and a better understanding of themself as a person. "We are love, we are peace, we are human," they repeat on the looping final refrain. This is an assurance that underpins not only "Human"'s core meaning, but the ideals of a singer who values above all "an authentic relationship between [their] self and [their] music."
