Kirsty Grant shelters from reality with the pillowy synth-pop of her new single "Back To Sleep"

London-based, Scottish singer/songwriter Kirsty Grant is done with the real world and ready to live in the dreams she's cooking up on "Back To Sleep", her third single of the year.

It's been a tough year, so going right back to sleep is definitely not an alien concept for anyone. For her latest glossy pop offering Kirsty Grant channels the frustration of missing a time before an apocalyptic ending. In this case, she's reminiscent of a pre-breakup reality rather than life before the pandemic, but as we've witnessed with a lot of new material this year, their meaning can shift with the timing of their release.

Talking to us about "Back To Sleep" Grant tells us "the song to me is about creating a dream world for yourself because sometimes reality sucks. The track is so relatable because I know that when things get too tough for me in life, I get overwhelmed, and instead of dealings with the problems, all I want to do is hide and forget what’s going on."

Her spellbinding approach to documenting what is essentially burying your head in the sand is gallant. One of her favourite songs to date, the track took shape over lockdown and Grant adds that despite initially being written about a break-up that she found "the lyrics ironically reflected how lonely I was feeling being in quarantine in my flat and trying to find a new normal.”

Despite taking a while to perfect the finished result sees Grant floating on a new high with her most addictive track to date.
