Katelyn Tarver's "Hate To Tell You" is the lyrical equivalent of the eye-roll emoji
Katelyn Tarver is another singer-songwriter you can add to your list of future saviours of pop.
With a couple of singles under her belt, plus a rework of Jeremih’s “Planez”, latest track “Hate to Tell You” is another testament to Tarver’s growing star quality. The former teen TV star’s transformation into an independent artist is practically complete.
The sarcastic single is all about letting someone down who is oblivious to the fact the night may not be going entirely as planned. Tarver’s dry “you think this is going well” adds a layer of humour - it's more or less the lyrical version of the eye-roll emoji!
In the mood “to create a girl power song” the finished product became “Hate To Tell You”, which Tarver worked on with BURNS (Britney Spears, Ellie Goulding, Noonie Bao). While the lyrics could easily be applied to many situations, Tarver explains the inspiration for the track was fresh in her mind as “[she] had just been to a terrible club in Hollywood.”
“Hate To Tell You” is another teaser of Tarver’s forthcoming EP, set to drop in early 2017. “Tired Eyes” will follow last year’s viral hit “Weekend Millionaires” and country flecked “What Do We Know Now”. With a handful of dance collaborations already out - plus her cover of Jermih’s “Planez” - the release is sure to feature a smorgasbord of whatever kind of pop Tarver decides to throw her hand to.
