Finnish 'anti-band' K-X-P unleash the convulsing "Freeway" from Part II of album III

29 January 2016, 10:45 | Written by Aaron Powell

Hellish Nords K-X-P return with exhilarating new single "Freeway", a deeply unsettling but quite brilliant track that cements them as one of the leaders in "Space-Trance-Spiritual-Rock-Meditation".

Melding together dark disco rhythms and krautrock vocalisation, K-X-P are structure in chaos and this is no more prevalent than in their latest offering. Made famous by the elusive revolving drummer symbolised by ‘X’ and the high octane intensity of their live performances, K-X-P have released two studio albums, toured with the likes of James Blake and Moon Duo, and have made a career from experimentation. With a desire to expand their frame of mind, one would assume K-X-P would have made some unnecessary, substance fuelled U-turn and started creating heroic funk punk or something equally ludicrous. Refreshingly the band are doing exactly what they do best: pushing boundaries within boundaries. K-X-P are sludge and metal, skin and synthetic bone shaped and broken into a convulsing and contorting behemoth of cinematic electronica. "Freeway" is an autobahn, a solitary voice in darkness crying out, the stuff of nightmares and dreams, equal parts isolation and claustrophobia. It's dark, unsettling and challenging - sonically, lyrically and musically. It's beauty and it's terrifying. "Freeway" is taken from III Part II, released on 11 March 2016 via Öm / Svart (pre-order CD / LP). UK / EU tour dates listed below.
