Heist or Hit signee JWestern unveils his latest luminous single “Check In”
West Yorkshire newcomer JWestern has released his second single “Check In”, and announced the release of his debut EP Just People.
Following on from his spirited debut single “Call You Right Now”, JWestern (AKA John Gooding) continues to forge his path in the alt-pop scene with his smooth new bop “Check In”.
Holding onto the glossy, polished beats that enveloped his debut, new taste “Check In” demonstrates the scope of Gooding’s talents by taking his staple sound and transforming it into an energised indie/R&B hybrid.
Breezy vocals blend harmoniously with dreamy soundscapes, drenching the mix in a sanguine sheen. Much like the to-the-point lyricism of “Call You Right Now”, Gooding continues to set the tone for his creative endeavours with the relatable storytelling of “Check In”.
Describing the formation of the track, Gooding explains, “At the time of writing ‘Check In’ I found it really difficult to say how I truly felt in the moment, so the lyrics of the song ended up being all the words I wish I had said, but escaped my mind. I find myself covering a lot of these topics in my EP - they’re like my very own therapy sessions. I hope in the process I manage to help someone else find peace of mind as well.”
JWestern · Check In“‘Check In’ is all about a breakdown in communication between two people,” he says. “I often find it really hard to say how I’m actually feeling in the moment and end up saying the wrong things; then in hindsight, everything becomes clear in my mind, and I end up regretting everything. But at the same time, even through a rough patch, I still want to check up on the person and make sure that they’re okay, and go back to how things were before.”
