Listen: Johnny Lloyd - “Pilgrims”
Johnny Lloyd has unveiled his debut EP in the shape of Pilgrims, and this title track demonstrates the scratchy, vintage feel the London-based artist is adopting.
The former frontman of Camden’s Tribes, who split last year, blends woozy, washed-out guitar work with a metronomic beat and languid vocals to create a warm psychedelic outing.
Lloyd brings to mind the likes of Jamie N Commons, early MGMT and Foxygen in the tie-die alt-rock scene and this initial release is devilishly moreish. “It’s late but I know I never loved somebody like you” Lloyd croons with a crackly, nostalgic sadness in a chorus that begs to be returned to.
Stream “Pilgrims” below; it is a brilliantly laid-back introduction to the on-trend singer-songwriter in his new solo guise.
