Johnny Kills make a rip-roaring return with brand new single "Who’s Counting"
Recently signed to cult record label Killing Moon following a handful of bolshy anthems including "Not So Bad" and "End Game", "Who’s Counting" marks the first single of the year for the trio who split their time between the capital and the quainter attributes of the Brighton coast.
Packing a pop punch with a deft swagger under its belt, "Who’s Counting" sees the band up their game. Unabashed, jaunty riffs flail with carefree abandon across an anthemic chorus full of festival-ready bounce, the beachy, surf-rock guitars and propulsive bassline creating a full-throttle tour-de-force of what it means to be arresting indie rock in 2018.
Channelling influences such as Wavves, FIDLAR and The Dandy Warhols, the band – comprised of brothers Tim and Lewis Lloyd-Kinnings and spiritual brother Cameron Gripp – tell frustrated tales of heartache and heartbreak all to the tones of riotous, scuzzy pop.
“It’s about meeting a great new person and ridiculously overthinking every aspect that this entails, internally focusing on this quasi-freak-out rather than enjoying and appreciating the new relationship for what it is,” reveals Tim. “Thinking ‘Oh bloody hell, what’s happening here? This can’t be good’ rather than ‘Oh, isn’t this great?’”
