Irish alt-folk artist Joel Harkin dreams up something special on “Vada”
“Vada” is a delicate full-band effort marrying thoughts of rural home life with a 1991 coming-of-age classic from fast-rising Joel Harkin.
Hailing from Letterkenny in County Donegal, Belfast-based singer-songwriter Joel Harkin has spent the last couple of years setting himself apart via his wonderfully lo-fi brand of candid, experimental folk.
“Vada” is the second single from his imminent debut album, Never Happy, and like his recent single “No Recycling”, it’s a deftly-woven tale that hits home and then some.
“The song creates a world in which my mates from Letterkenny and the main character of my favourite film, the 1991 classic My Girl, exist in the same universe,” Harkin says. “It’s about how they compare the differences and similarities in their lives that take place on two different sides of the world.”
