Jenevieve shines on the alluring, funked-fuelled "Baby Powder"
Mapping out her first love, and subsequent first heartbreak, "Baby Powder" captures Jenevieve’s future-thinking retro sound perfectly.
Like a time capsule, “Baby Powder” condenses what we know about Jenevieve’s musical heritage into a succinct three-minute trip of audio perfection. There’s a level of sophistication and effortless cool when it comes to everything Jenevieve does which is further highlighted by the track's video.
“Baby Powder” is brimming with smooth R&B and muted disco influences all the while dripping with a seductive funk swagger. It follows her debut, a night-time slow burner, “Medallion” which takes another deeply personal story and plays with jazz and hip hop for inspiration to create something that’s soothing for the soul.
Raised in Miami, her abuela and mother are both ballet dancers and having attended flamenco and ballet classes herself, it was just the work ethic and discipline that stuck with Jenevieve. Moving to LA with her family, it’s here she met her producer and songwriting partner Jean Beanz and together they’ve created her debut album.
