James Drake Mixtape – Bombé and Mr. Caribbean
James Blake and Drake are artists from the urban and experimental landscape that challenge connotations which attempted to define them before their respective debut LP’s dropped. The former’s background sauntered within dubstep and electronic circles having previously been part of Mount Kimbie. Whilst, the latter was a darling of the indie demographic (very much like The Weeknd now) following his seamless concoction of witty wordplay and mounting vocals on 2009’s breakthrough mixtape So Far Gone.
Philly based production duo Bombé and Mr. Caribbean have chopped the jarring melancholy of Blake’s sound and screwed the dope nature of Drake’s bars to create a civil consummation which is played out somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. Minimal and Morose. This bastard pop cocktail may appear threadbare but the after-effects will be felt long after consumption.
