Issey Cross is doing all the talking on her provocative debut single "WHO"
The left-field first release from the London-based artist begins with the bombastic opening line "who the fuck is this bitch? and how the fuck she know your name?"
Issey Cross doesn't stutter as she delivers that striking first lyric, packed with intent and laced with an accusatory tone it's clear she's running the show. Short, but not so sweet "WHO" takes down a cheating boyfriend in two minutes. Done with the lies, Cross has perfected facial expression interpretation and quashes any attempt at a retort.
The newcomer makes a statement with her understated sound, produced and co-written by Ebenezer (Mahalia, Stefflon Don) who brought the relatable concept to their session, "WHO" oozes an eeriness that has us on the edge of our seats. Matching the track's melodic riff with glacial spaced-out beats, there's something menacing about Cross as the narrator of this story.
Pacing around in the music video's sparse set-up, Cross and her friends are ready to interrogate their witness, and pounce. A tantalising debut which is set to be followed up by more music shortly, if this is the trailer for Issey Cross we're ready for the movie.
