IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs announce collaborative EP with mouth-watering lead single "Boxes"
Vancouver-via-Peckham’s Rian Peters, aka IAMTHELIVING, and rapper/producer Teon Gibbs have announced their collaborative EP JNGL, which is accompanied by the sumptuous, R&B-infused "Boxes".
After sharing their R&B-infused, UK garage-flecked and funky tracks "Between The Groove", "Puppa" and "Distance", IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs continue with their passionate and layered take on R&B with charming new track "Boxes".
The instrumental provides a sultry backdrop for IAMTHELIVING, who sings passionately about finding "that treasure that I’ve been searching for". The bubbly, intricate production gives the track a kaleidoscopic effect, allowing the layered beat and vibrant instrumentation to embody that eureka moment where you feel an instant connection with someone just from a glance. Teon Gibbs also has his own vocal moment on the track, delivering playful bars that highlight the song’s core of being attracted to someone that literally ticks all the boxes.
IAMTHELIVING’s soulful vocals blend beautifully with the dance-ready melodies that bear some resemblance to Kaytranada. IAMTHELIVING, real name Rian Peters, says of the track, "The song is about being single for a long period of time, not having to commit to anyone, and just being out there having fun and playing the field, but at the same time, hoping to find that one to settle down with, and out of nowhere finding someone who ticks every single box of what you've been truly looking for."
"Boxes" is another layer of the duo’s JNGL EP, which embodies both artists’ identities while also demonstrating their effortless charm as a collaborative unit."We decided to join forces to create tracks that would make people want to dance…and bring people together," IAMTHELIVING says. Teon Gibbs adds, "We wanted to create a project that embodies who we are, where we’re from, and shows what we can do. The word JNGL just seemed to capture it all."
