Listen: Hyde & Beast - "Blue"
After a three-year break, Sunderland duo Hyde & Beast strut back with riffy summer jam, “Blue”.
David Hyde (The Futureheads) and Neil Bassett (Golden Virgins) last convened in 2011 and the resulting album, Slow Down, sounded just as the title might suggest. It had the air of two friends enjoying themselves in the studio, unconcerned with making a statement or becoming The Next Big Thing.
“Blue” follows ably in those footsteps, with a groovy, stomping riff reminiscent of 70s glam-era T. Rex (or El Camino-era The Black Keys, if you’re under the age of 25). Hyde adds playful 60s-style pop harmonies to round things out.
The song’s end kicks everything up a notch, ripening for an extended jam, which is great news if you can catch the pair at any of their forthcoming summer dates:

9 August – Sunderland Split Festival
