LA-based duo Honeywhip turn isolation into indulgence on new cut "Think About U"
Written between Tokyo and LA, Honeywhip’s "Think About U" is a soft crush of shimmering indie that hits on the emotions of lockdown loneliness.
Honeywhip know all about isolation. The individually nameless duo moved to Japan on a whim, without friends or a strong grasp of the language. From their Tokyo apartment they began to make music, quietly, so as not to disturb their neighbours through the thin walls.
Returning to LA they set about to finish what they’d started, releasing a stream of lo-fi, sun-kissed, hushed indie perfect for the encapsulating summer months. In the context of our new locked-down way of life, the themes in tracks like "Feels Good to Laugh" become even more apparent and resolute.
New single “Think About U” is a rush of calm melody and glistening bedroom production with vocals that melt into the track. It’s a half-way beach house between the blissed up slacker indie of DIIV and the chillwave/dream pop of Washed Out, but the lyrics are claustrophobic and cutting, "I can’t wait till I finally escape / And don’t think about you / I can hardly wait to wake up one day / And not think about you."
Of the track they write, ""Think About U" is a song about the process of shedding emotional baggage. From the anxiety we face in our cycles of pain, anger, and heartbreak, to the solace and joy we find in the realization that all things can pass."
The duo are giving 100% of the track’s sales to Black Lives Matter.
