Holland delivers a twisted pop threat on “Forget Your Name”
Under the influences of Amy Winehouse and Rihanna, Holland is an Amsterdam-born artist making dark pop in the vein of Lorde and Banks.
“Forget Your Name” is a relatively simple song, with strands of multi-layered vocals twining together over ominous electronics. Her Facebook page states that she “has never shied away from hard-hitting beats and industrial sounds”, aspects that are subtly blended into the angst-ridden pop of this track.
Like many of her influences, Holland’s lyrical themes are those of a twisted love song; she acknowledges the imperfections that make up the dark side of the narrative relationship, whilst simultaneously threatening to take her leave. Despite her otherwise silky-smooth vocal, Holland repeatedly delivers the staccato phrase “When you gonna learn?” with an effortlessly venomous undertone.
