Listen: Hatch - "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (Roy Ayers cover)
Sydney’s Jerry Gorman, aka Hatch, indulges his soulful side with a cover of the under-appreciated Roy Ayers classic “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”.
Gorman has shown an interest in retro RnB before, most notably on “What You Need” and “Hold On Me”, songs that weren’t far from covers themselves. As on “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”, however, Hatch has added some modern touches—robotic hand claps, sparkly synths, the occasional dip in to vocoder usage—to make this some of the most eminently danceable music since disco.
Despite the high production value, Hatch doesn’t lose the jazzy sense of improvisation that made the original a classic, and it will keep you guessing as to what’s coming next. Self-described as “rhythm and bass”, this is perfect for that drive through the summer sunshine with the windows down.
