London producer Harlequiin drops uplifting chillout gem “Water Me” featuring Amelka May
After performing with The 1975, Blur and Friendly Fires, Harlequiin is producer and musician Rory Simmons' solo outing. “Water Me” gives us a taste of what’s to come on his forthcoming EP Decade’s Dream.
The harmonious blend of Amelka May’s dulcet vocals and the glitchy, unconventional synths allow “Water Me” to flow effortlessly from start to finish. There's a complexity to some elements of the instrumentation, but each layer marries up organically to give life to a track that takes chaotic, experimental aspects and chillout features and transforms them into a shining and uplifting piece of music.
After a gradual buildup from the intro, the instrumentation settles into a consistent rhythm that's only broken when the majority of the percussion drops away for the bridge.
“'Water Me' is about self care and kindness to oneself,” Amelka May states when discussing the track. “In my experience, in cultivating a good relationship with yourself, good things happen. You tend to meet positive people and find yourself in healthier situations than you might have done before. 'Water Me' is a celebration of that”.
