Girlhood embrace femininity on new single "It Might Take A Woman"

07 October 2020, 09:00 | Written by Ben Miles

London-based duo Girlhood return with the release of dreamy new groove of "It Might Take A Woman", the latest cut from their self-titled debut album.

Oozing confidence and vulnerability in equal measure, Girlhood’s new single “It Might Take a Woman" enforces the overarching message of their forthcoming self-titled debut album - that we should all try and encourage our inner femininity. Following their elegantly wistful single “The Love I Need”, the constant drive and enduring aspiration of "It Might Take A Woman" is the main emotional takeaway, the intricate uptempo house influences at the centre of the song continue the duo’s musical development.

The general uptick in mood brought about by Girlhood’s new single is undeniable, but the pair are also keenly conscious of the human universality that connects us all. Having met in quaintly serendipitous circumstances - Christian Pincheck asked Tess Cavanna to record with him after he heard her singing to herself when she walked past his moored narrowboat in Regent’s Canal - Girlhood know the importance of spontaneity and individuality.

"The older I get, the more I realise that we should be embracing and giving agency to our femaleness. I guess that was what was going through my mind when we were creating this track,” shares vocalist and lyricist Cavanna. "I'm so pleased this one made the album as well because it’s such a joy to sing live!

"We are all very different superficially but our need to be loved, heard and understood is universal. This is a new era of transparency and honesty,” she continues. "There is a call to say what we think and how the world makes us feel, and I believe this is a conversation we can all have together as members of the same human family. So, I’ll leave it there... I want us all to see the love we need and be aware of how to share that love with others."

"It Might Take A Woman" is available now via Team Talk Records, with the self-titled debut album to folllow on 23 October. Follow Girlhood on Facebook.
