Electro-soul duo Gemma unveils their latest single, the dreamy "Reminiscent Vice" [Premiere]
We are proud to announce that Brooklyn electro-soul duo Gemma is unveiling their latest single, “Reminiscent Vice”, exclusively here at Best Fit.
Prior Song Of The Day features, Gemma is a product of the criminally misunderstood, genre-eluding Brooklyn group Ava Luna, featuring the band’s keyboardist/vocalist Felicia Douglass along with electronic musician Erik Gundel.
As we alluded to on their debut single, “As Ever”, Gemma is a straighter-laced outfit than its progenitor, sticking closer to a consistent soul/R&B mold. “Reminiscent Vice” continues that trend in a dialled-back manner, with Douglass’ languid, spotless vocals leading the way.
Thus far, Gemma, like its forefather band, has proven a triumph of arrangement, as Douglass’ vocal cadence provides a neat juxtaposition to Gundel’s underlying jazz-inflected percussion. Ostensibly without notice, but wholly welcomed, twinkling synth-harp accents stroll in, a dreamy thread for sewing the two sides together.
Speaking about the track, Gemma says: "'Reminiscent Vice' is about giving in to reality and feeling its weight. It's a cathartic release. The lush instrumental is meant to be the focus, with vocals weaving in and out like a stream of consciousness."
Gemma’s debut album As Ever is due 2 October courtesy of Inflated Records and can be pre-ordered here.
