Finland's Ideomotor channel '80s goth-pop on new Jean-Luc Godard-inspired single "Amplified"
Finnish childhood friends, Erkka Wennonen and Kimmo Myllyviita, AKA Ideomotor, are debuting new cut "Amplified" on Best Fit.
There are flecks of Depeche Mode, Hurts or Black in the throbby, cylic basslines and epic quivering vocals, but don't let that distract you from an enthralling piece of doom-riddled electro-pop. It's cinematic, with vivid samples and glitchy chirrups offering an abrasiveness to their slick pop tendencies that erupt in the chorus.
Speaking about the track, the duo said:
"The inspiration for this was set around a classic film quote from Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 film Breathless. We had an idea to base the recording sessions around a lead line that would guide the atmosphere of the track; We also decided against demoing songs very far prior to hitting the studio and hence worked a lot with just intuition and really focused more on atmosphere than structure. The film quote was twisted around and can be heard as the opening vocal synth line in Amplified."
The single follows the band's debut EP For A Moment We Are Strangers, released earlier this year.
