Exclusive Album Stream: Copy Haho – Copy Haho
It’s been a heck of a long time in coming, but July 4 will finally see the release of the debut album by northern Scottish types Copy Haho. We’ve been harping on about these guys for quite a while now, but other than an EP over – count ‘em – three years ao and a solitary single in 2009 the band have been oh-so-quiet when it’s come to releasing music.
Although the boys are originally from the wilds of Stonehaven, the album was recorded at Chem19 studios – situated not far from Glasgow in an equally desolate (but less attractive, no doubt) industrial estate – by Paul Savage (Mogwai, The Phantom Band, Arab Strap) and is a sound of a band who’ve spent the time in the shadows honing their guitar pop skills to butcher’s knife sharpness.
The result is indie rock that avoids the landfill with a flying leap, an album packed with whip-smart pop melodies, and guitar lines that bite and don’t let go. From start to end it’s a relentless joyride of three-minute songs, whether it be the straight outta the blocks opener ‘Factory Floor’, the attack of ‘Pestle and Mortar’ or the swoon of ‘The Be Good’.
Copy Haho is an album that doesn’t deserve to be lumped in with the numerous witless boys-with-guitars that constantly seem to be clogging up record labels and certain periodicals. If you’ve got 40 minutes to spare today, listen below and prepare to feel exhilarated.
