Brother duo Everyone You Know perfectly capture the reckless abandon of youth on striking new single
Reckless abandon, stupid decisions and hard-hitting reality sit heavy in the air on Everyone You Know's latest tale of young adulthood - and it's nothing short of brilliant.
"The Drive" is a tale of being a young male and pushing the boundaries just for the thrill of it - with incredibly dangerous consequences.
Underpinned by an undeniable and menacing bass-driven groove, it's a song where the storytelling is key its success: it is at once dramatic, but completely believable. The lyricism posits itself in line with the relatability that permeated through Arctic Monkeys' debut album, whilst inhabiting the same striking realism that Mike Skinner made his name with.
However, Rhys Kirkby-Cox and Harvey Kirkby's own unique take on storytelling feels completely fresh and as though it is handmade for the reality of living in 2019. Speaking on the experience that they illustrate through the track, Rhys says "I wanted to write a tune that was quite simply a moment in time. A little window into a young adult’s life…. Bar the last verse, I feel like everyone has been in that car with their pals, and if you haven’t, this tune will make you feel like you have."
The new single comes in the lead-up to the duo's second EP, entitled Look After Your Pennies due for release later this year, and perfecly cements their place as an act to keep an eye on.
