Esther Joy looks into the abyss on sinister electro track "Samgel"
London-based artist Esther Joy bares her shadowy soul on lurching dark-pop track "Samgel", the first from upcoming EP Psychic Tears.
The Leeds-born newcomer opens a Pandora's Box on "Samgel", releasing all manner of sonic demons and aural imps into the ether. Boisterous synths à la HEALTH riot amongst ghostly vocals, with beats and bass howling in the background - it's chaotic for sure, but there are buffed-out moments of pop that glisten in the darkness.
"'Samgel' is the name I use for the dark presence I experience and write about a lot in my music," explains Joy. "It is a part of me that has overwhelmed me so much in my life and been the root to most of my darkest moments. I named this track after it because as soon as I wrote that first synth line (the big intense one at the beginning), it was like I had found Samgel."
