LA duo Emotional Oranges tenderly articulate loss on R&B-tinged alt-pop track “Corners Of My Mind”
Lost in the murky twilight of heartbreak, Emotional Oranges beautifully capture the dissolution of a romantic relationship with “Corners Of My Mind” – a track encompassing human emotions in their purest form.
Emotional Oranges' astute vocals combine with melodic precision as the sonics lap gently and ripple with sparse percussion and scattered finger clicks to create a fine-tuned aesthetic. Heightened by the duo's creative chemistry, it’s an intimate portrayal of our first brushes of love and, unfortunately, loss.
The vocal harmonies in the track are a heart-breaking back and forth between the two collaborators, as past memories, events and fingerprints are erased from minds.
Soft R&B elements float over a dazzling night sky of ghostly alt-pop – a taxi ride through the city as the glow of streetlights pass you by. “We watched a close friend go through an awful heartbreak recently,” the duo explains.
“This song was birthed by us attempting to reflect on how we would have reacted had it happened to us. The irony is as he was losing love, one of us was finding new love. It made the whole process of writing it all quite painful.”
