If the big, bold guitar-funk of “7AM” was Birmingham/London duo EKKAH’s very own Haim moment, then their latest cut, “Figure It Out”, represents a marked shift into the slinky soul territory occupied by Jessie Ware.
Rebekah Pennington and Rebecca Wilson - hence EKKAH, got it? - take the liquid, grooving bass of their debut track even deeper this time around, cushioning it in layers of sharp hand percussion, gently spiraling synths and their trademark caramel-sweet vocals. The girls have an official EP in the works, due to drop this summer - don’t be surprised if this blissful pop-soul hybrid are daytime radio’s new darlings by then.
