Stockholmers Ease show their synth credentials on "Adrenaline"
Late in November 2016 a Facebook page popped up with a statement of intent: "Synthesising Stockholm since 2016".
That page belonged to Ease, a synthpop duo made up of Niclas Lindgren and Siri Jennefelt. They've signed up to Stockholm underground label Häxrummet Records, and are about the drop their debut EP Latest Aches. They released the first single from that, "Coming Through Me", a nocrtural synthpop song, back in December and now they've returned with another, "Adrenaline".
"Adrenaline" is a faster and more aggressive song than "Coming Through Me", a pounding, old-school synth anthem that can trace its bloodline back to "Blue Monday" era New Order. As you might imagine from a song called "Adrenaline", it's a tight, intense affair, Lindgren and Jennefelt trading vocals over a synthline that'll hit you right in the bloodstream. The track's driving momentum is complemented by the band's ear for a chorus, crafting one here that gives the song a cathartic sense of release to go with its frosty dynamics. With dark, cold songs like this, Ease make the night worth listening to.
