Download / Stream: Niki and The Dove, live in Sweden
I’ve been thinking about starting up a self help club for all attendees of last week’s Niki and The Dove show in London (pictured above). There are a small group of folk, whether directly linked to this site or not, that have more or less been stuck in a constant flux of “can’t we just re-live it all over again?” – Special doesn’t quite cut it and gig of the year only seems to downplay it. Religious experience more like.
If you weren’t there, you’ll never be able to understand. But the following recording of a show back in March might help the process. Super high quality (more than likely sourced directly from the sound desk), the real treat lies in the fact that within its 65 minute running time we’re treated to four new as-of-yet unheard songs. Recorded only two months ago in Stockholm, this is the sound of a band still totally at play with their own sound; manipulating and flexing arrangements as they go. You’ll probably hear these songs performed in this way again, but that’s kind of the beauty of Niki and The Dove: they’re evolving before our very eyes, and it’s completely fascinating to witness.
Big thanks to Swedish online radio stalwarts Gimme Indie for making this concert available. Check the full track list below.
