DOM ROBINSON OLD HEADSHOT

Dom Robinson channels Frightened Rabbit on “Good Love”

10 January 2017, 11:39 | Written by Pip Williams

Maturity and craftsmanship were key elements in the construction of Dom Robinson’s first single of 2017 - and it shows.

Influenced by Bon Iver and Frightened Rabbit, Robinson takes a meticulous approach to songwriting. On “Good Love” his steady-headed technique firmly anchors the ebbs and swirls of his modern folk sound as he builds immersive layers of vocals over delicate guitar and piano.

Lyrically “Good Love” seeks to explore the difficulties and challenges presented by romantic relationships and the work it takes to overcome them. “It’s not enough to feel your good love from time to time,” Robinson’s multi-tracked voice laments, effortlessly putting into words that all-too-familiar feeling of dissatisfaction when you’re at a dead end. The song escalates to its crescendo, a whirlwind of all-encompassing voices, then suddenly falls away, ready for you to hit replay.

“Good Love” is out now.
