Doe Paoro shows impressive range with the ruminative "Growth/Decay"
Fresh off the heels of signing to the excellent indie label Anti-, R&B singer/songwriter Doe Paoro’s is making good on all the promise that signing holds, announcing her Anti- debut LP, After, and issuing its first single, “Growth/Decay”.
We’re treated to Paoro’s always supple vocals, with just the right hint of grit and her penchant for working the entire spectrum of soulful crooning and pitch perfect belting. Her drum/bass/synth backing rises and falls alongside her before we’re confronted with an unsettling drone as Paoro wafts off into the breeze.
Having spent time in the Far East, it’s no surprise Paoro ruminates here on the inevitable cyclical nature of life. She’s seen it in the economy of her hometown of Syracuse, NY and in the ways privileged folks of her current residence, Los Angeles, flail at artificially fighting it off.
After, recorded at Justin Vernon’s (Bon Iver) studio with Bon Iver drummer Sean Carey, is due out 25 September courtesy of Anti-.
