DNKL reveal theremin-led techno sizzler "Otherside" [Premiere]
Swedish dark-pop upstarts DNKL have returned with a new single called "Otherside", and you can hear it now on Best Fit.
This track is the trio's first release on Different Recordings (Claptone, Shadow Child), and showcases another string to their bow. It's being unveiled ahead of their Asian tour.
"Otherside" is a techno-flecked track, less overtly poppy than previous offerings, which gradually evolves into the kind of sultry dancefloor beast that makes you lose track of time and space. It's a heady theremin-led trance simmerfest that'll twist your psyche into a new state of consciousness. Play this one loud.
We were there for the band's debut U.K. show earlier this year, where the band played London landmark The Lexington.
Speaking about the track's unusual creation, DNKL say:
“We started to work on 'Otherside' last summer, actually under quite some pressure... we were set to perform at Roskilde and at the time of the booking, our first ever in fact, we only had one track out on Soundcloud. We simply had to sit down together and create music that was needed for the show. It turned out to be quite an exciting challenge. It was the first time we had experimented with adding dancier elements to our music. Lyrically though it’s still very DNKL though, it’s a song about vanity and the heart burning desire to always get a piece of what we don’t have. The constant gazing at the other side.”
The song is available to pre-order now from iTunes, and will be out tomorrow (16 September).
