"Antonio Amerika" is the disco-punk debut single from Sweden's....Diskopunk [Premiere]

If there was some kind of award for doing exactly what it says on the tin, Stockholm's Diskopunk would win hands down.

"Antonio Amerika" is a tale focusing on Diskopunk's singer undergoing a transformation to become the titular onstage persona, someone willing to lose control and "wear my fuck-ups like a diamond ring". He's joined in the band by Joakim Rydén, Harald Forsmark, William Collins and Henrik Ulvenäs and it really is true to say the band plays music that's a combination of disco and (post) punk.

The song itself is heavy on the sounds of 2002 and the punk-funk influences of the likes of The Rapture and DFA Records; the rhythms are propulsive, there's heavy use of cowbell and angular guitars and a middle section which sounds a heck of a lot like "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" by Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Atop it all is singer Antonio Amerika's grandstanding - slightly silly but all combine to make a song that's a lot of fun and shows plenty of promise in these Swedish newcomers.
