Norway's dePresno takes unlikely inspiration from Afroman on new single "Breathing"
Slowly but surely making a name for himself thanks to a spectacular voice, dePresno is following up a strong 2016 with a brand new single.
Yet another talented artist from Bergen, Bjarte Borthen stands out from his west coast contemporaries - in part due to his influences which are very much North American and R&B in style, but mostly due to a remarkable voice. "Breathing" shows that off to great effect.
Snapping percussion, parps of brass and bright synths combine with dePresno's voice - one which goes a throaty, low croon to a soaring falsetto - to make "Breathing" the Norwegian's best track to date. It feels like he's finding a confident voice of his own that's not quite as in thrall to his heroes and influences as before, and this can only help dePresno go from strength to strength.
"We actually listened to 'Because I Got High' for inspiration!" says dePresno. "The whole vibe of the song is slightly careless and Caribbean. Me and Flo wrote it in London just a couple of months ago. It's kind of a egotistical track, but sometimes you got to take a minute and just breath. Hopefully it fits both the preparty, party, after party and the next day."
