Dan Michaelson storms the beaches with his Coastguards in tow on new single "Undo"

Dan Michaelson And The Coastguards are set to release their upcoming full-length, Memory, this May via The state51 Conspiracy. Today, we premiere the first track taken from the album: "Undo".

The discernible and endearing croak of frontman Dan Michaelson feels both hauntingly invasive and reassuringly comforting at the same time, something that has defined him for many years as a genuine innovator and artist.

"Undo" showcases the mind of man who can convey the endless complications of the human mind through the simplicity of honest lyricisms and clarity of musical scope.

Everything from Penguin Cafe Orchestra to Damien Rice makes its way onto this track. It's refreshing, brooding, considerate and challenging whilst also being accessible and, most importantly, a really enjoyable listen.

Speaking about the track, Dan says: I was trying to describe the moment where you say the wrong thing without thinking - it slips out and you can't take it back.

"Given this kind of thing tends to happen when you're drunk or half asleep, I set this music within the kind of skewed logic dreams have where correctness and truth give way to accepting something other....the cellos and strings lack sensible order in favour of random movements that only make sense within the limits of the song.

"There's a nod to one of my all time favourite albums as well, Serge Gainbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson. But again, the way I'd hear it from far away or the way I'd remember it... not exactly as it is”

"Undo" (released 29 April) appears on Dan Michaelson And The Coastguards' new album Memory, out on 6 May via The state51 Conspiracy. They play How The Light Gets In Festival on 2 June.
