Considering the usual summer influx of dream-pop tracks ridden with overwhelming positivity, the gloriously cynical realism from Cristina Black’s latest track, ‘Summer’s Over’, is refreshing, if not slightly distressing.
Never mind UV rays and poolside cocktails, this NYC based singer songwriter embraces the true meaning of summer; rendezvous with married men, swimming in pools of your own tears and wanting to self-destruct when September arrives and it all comes crashing down. Get the Prozac in.
Despite the gloomy demeanor and self-harm undertones, the lullaby-esque melody along with Black’s sweet, smokey vocals and almost Kimya Dawson-like playfulness make it every bit worthwhile.
