Get gassed on the echoing synth-pop of Crème’s debut “Helium”
“Helium”, the first track from artist Trixie Reiss under new alias Crème, is sparkling synth-pop with a Grimes-esque feel.
In Reiss’s own words, Crème is “100% me! I have never been one to fit into a mould [and] I’ve always come up with complete concepts, it’s just that in the past they may have sounded left of centre compared to the production of my collaborators. I’ve collaborated with lots of great people in the past but with Crème I wanted to crystallize everything about me, so that the music is pure and undiluted… just me!”
Explaining why she took an extended break from her recording career - one that previously involved a collaboration with The Crystal Method, amongst others - Reiss adds: “Art takes its twists and turns in life, and I’ve been involved in many different forms of art over the years. Then I hit another kind of twist in the road: I had a son who was diagnosed with autism, and I became completely invested in his growth. Now [that] he is a happy, thriving, really cool kid, I can get back to what I was doing before he came into the picture. Right now, I think the time is right for people like me.”
“For me, ‘Helium’ is about finding love,” Reiss explains, of the track premiering today. “in a sense it’s a love song, but not one about finding love in a person. ‘Helium’ is about another world, the space of sound, and finding my voice within it, which has always been my connection to music. It heals me and my songs, which in many ways come from improvisation, guide me to a better place, where there is love.”
