Colder announces new Record Store Day EP, unveils hypnotic electro cut "All Along The Way"

French electronic producer Colder is sharing new single "All Along The Way" to celebrate the announcement of new EP Some Lost Tapes.

Colder's third record Many Colours arrived last year, followed swiftly by a pair of remix short-players, but Colder's not letting off the gas just yet.

Some Lost Tapes is a vinyl-only five-track release, limited to 500 copies, which will see the light of day on Record Store Day 2016 (16 April). It assembles a handful of offcuts and rarities that were thought to be gone following the closure of Output, Colder's former record label, in 2005.

The lead single, "All Along The Way", is pockmarked with jerky, spasming '80s post-punk à la Orange Juice, and underpinned by Colder's silky ambient synths. It's an anxious dream, simultaneously hypnotic and nervy as it cycles through electronic loops and frantic beats.

Explaining his creative process, Colder - aka Marc Nguyen Tan - says:

"'All Along the Way' is a quick and simple study based on the way I was working at the time I recorded 'Again' - I was basically using a kind of hip-hop production workflow, carefully choosing or picking and editing all my samples, and then using them on a drum pad to reprogram some new loops and arrangements out of them. But instead of writing hip-hop, I was more playing pop kind of arrangements, or something hybrid. Vocals were recorded in a couple of takes, and then edited in a very repetitive way, like they're played on drum pads as well. I always felt that the very repetitive music that results from this process was matching the kind of abstract existential lyrics I often use, the whole thing sounding like a kind of mantra or inner voice.”

The Some Lost Tapes EP is the tip of 2016's iceberg - a collaboration with Denmark’s Kasper Bjørke, plus his own SAVE! project alongside Craig Higgins Jr. (Paranoid London), are just two wonders to expect.
