Club Kuru christen new lineup and direction with smooth funk-pop cut "Not For Me"
Club Kuru - now a five piece - are sharing the first taste of a new direction - it's called "Not For Me".
Laurie Erskine - formerly a "languid R&B/bedroom producer" - has swanned into the realm of psychedelic funk with a little help from his friends. Club Kuru is still led by Erskine on vocals and synths - but now also features Graham Godrey (drums), Ferg Ireland (bass), Jess Berry (backing vocals/synths), and Laurence Hammerton (guitar). Membership for this club is soaring, it would appear.
"Not For Me" is a shimmering, velvety piece of dusky gorgeousness. It's decadent and gilt-edged - this is effortlessly smooth and bursting with infectious melodies. It's very different, but this abrupt shift is very welcome.
