Clean Cut Kid impress again with romantically-charged ballad “Twenty Years From Now”

13 July 2015, 10:45 | Written by George O'Brien

Having announced themselves to the world with one of the most vital, infectious debuts of the year in “Vitamin C”, Clean Cut Kid have revealed a brilliant b-side, showing depth and emotion on top of their obvious knack for pop writing.

The Liverpool quartet - husband and wife Mike and Evelyn Halls, Saul Godman and Ross Higginson - build on from the instant first cut with this slow-burning new one. Once again twitching, fidgety guitar welcomes us into the romantically-charged ballad as Halls’ vocal pines: “Where does your smile go when you are down? / I searched for it for years but I’ve given up now.”

The couple harmonise together, heightening the tension of the tale and the track builds through a cello-infused bridge, to a pounding, fist-clenching conclusion that nods subtly to the guilty pleasure world of the power ballad.

Stream the latest track from real ones to watch Clean Cut Kid below; it’ll still sound great “Twenty Years From Now”.
