Chloe Rodgers drops Greek mythology-influenced "The Algea"
"The Algea" is a dreamy slice of baroque pop from Nottingham-based Chloe Rodgers.
There probably aren’t too many artists who can claim to have kicked off their music career by accidentally winning “Notts X-Factor”. For Chloe Rodgers, it was her performance at this event that grabbed the attention of Swedish producer Anders Källmark, who wasted no time in snapping her up (“She was so effortlessly talented that we thought she must be performing a series of covers," he said, "but she wasn’t!”)
Having contributed vocals to Källmark’s Scandinavian collective Twenty Committee before releasing two brilliant singles of her own already this year - "A Delphian Lullaby" and "Faces" - Chloe Rodgers is back with a new captivating track "The Algea".
"'The Algea' is named after a group of Greek goddesses that are basically just mega depressed,” explains Rodgers. “I was definitely being over dramatic giving it that name. It was just about being a naive teenager looking for love but getting used by older dudes that knew exactly what they were doing."
There’s something about the snappy, staccato strings forming the backbone of "The Algea" that harks back to the '90s (think Vanessa Carlton meets early PJ Harvey), but the wisdom in the lyrics also makes it a stand-out. “My heart it is sinking into sleep / Yearning for something that’s deeper / I suppose / I should just take off my clothes for you” sings Rodgers.
