‘Fast Challenges’ by Chad Valley – or Hugo Manuel to his friends – is a wildly emotive track warmed in Balearic sunshine and itching to dance. Layers swell languidly beneath the upbeat beach-party rhythm, whilst the falsetto vocals soar above. Indefinable lyrics at times feel sorrow-filled, and then jubilant – the vocals adding a sense of human emotion to the electronic landscape, before becoming entirely un-human as they float ethereally out of the mix.
‘Fast Challenges’ is full of complicated feelings and sangria – but the sun is shining and it came here to dance. It is taken from Chad Valley’s forthcoming EP Equatorial Ultravox, which will be released in the UK on June 20 via Loose Lips.
