Get lost in Catgod's haunting love song "Heartbeat In My Hand"
Oxford-based group Catgod are here to brush away the cobwebs and help beckon in the spring with their wistful and gloriously haunting new song "Heartbeat In My Hand".
The group is centred around brother-sister duo Robin and Cat and together they create effortlessly charming, folk-inspired songs. Their newest effort is soothing, pinned down by soft piano melodies and delicate harmonies.
It finds beauty in the tiny details - the twinkling piano in the background and the gentle beat that pulls it together. These intricate details only enhance the core meaning that lies at the heart of the song, as it's all about realising the things that we take for granted and the impact that the small things can have on our life as whole.
Explaining the formation of the track and its humble beginnings as a gift for a lover, Robin explains "It is from an album of love songs I gave my girlfriend for her 21st birthday. The idea for which started when I noticed a pulse in my hand whilst I was running. I had been thinking of how I can forget or take for granted the good things in life and sometimes the people close to me; and how I couldn't do without them. Cat decided to sing the tune and after a session of live recording and gigging with the band it was transformed into what it is now."
The focus of the track, however, is undoubtedly Cat's ghostly vocals that take centre stage as she dips and dives, slides, whispers and soars with absolute ease. Her voice is strong and striking, but within its strength lies something vulnerable that makes her sound almost otherworldly, like something from the beyond. It makes for a joyously breathtaking listen.
